COLLEGE COUNSELING

SCHOOL COUNSELING: REALIZING YOUR FULL POTENTIAL

With a best-in-class student to counselor ratio, the young men of Moeller build genuine relationships with their counselors over their four-year education journey. Moeller’s counseling program delivers holistic, individualized, data-driven counseling activities and interventions to support students in their social and emotional development, academic growth, and college and career planning. Counselors provide support for students who need help adjusting to high school, seek mental and emotional support, need strategies for managing stress, struggle with anxiety and depression, and/or experience sudden life changes.

COLLEGE COUNSELING: FOCUSING ON YOUR FUTURE

Moeller offers a comprehensive college counseling program designed to guide students towards their academic and career goals. College and career planning begins as early as freshman year, providing students ample time to explore options and make informed decisions. Students participate in assessments and discussions to identify potential career paths that align with their interests and strengths. Counselors provide individual, small group, and classroom counseling sessions to assist students with college research, application processes, and essay writing. Counselors also meet with students and their families to generate college lists and discuss application best practices.

SIDON: DIRECTOR OF HAPPINESS

Sidon, a yellow lab, comes to us from Circle Tail, Inc., a company that provides facility dogs specially trained to provide physical, social, cognitive, and emotional assistance. Their dogs have gone through extensive training to work with young adults in a school environment. Sidon is the counseling department’s facility dog, otherwise affectionately known as the director of happiness. He resides in the counseling office during the day and frequently attends class. He also provides much-needed stress relief during exam time.

COUNSELING OFFERINGS

Academic Support
At Moeller, it’s all about each student’s success. The counselors work with each student to develop a four-year academic plan which evolves throughout his tenure at Moeller. Counselors have many resources within the building to ensure academic success– study skill support, academic intervention, class registration and academic and career advising.
COLLEGE COUNSELING
College and career planning begins freshmen year and continues throughout the four years at Moeller. Students learn about career opportunities and, through assessments and discussions, the post-secondary options that will be a good fit for them. Counselors provide individual, small group, and classroom counseling sessions for college research and the application process. Moeller’s school counselors are able to provide individual college counseling services to all students to help them reach their unique college and career goals.

PERSONAL AND SOCIAL SUPPORT
Counselors provide support for students who need help adjusting to high school, students who seek mental and emotional support, students who are looking to manage stress, those who struggle with anxiety and depression and who have sudden life changes. Moeller and Bring Change to Mind (BC2M), a student-led club, have become partners dedicated to mental health conversations. BC2M’s high school program gives teens a platform to share their voices and raise awareness around mental health. Our goal is to empower students to educate one another, their communities, and to create a culture of peer support within our school.

COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS
College Credit Plus (CCP) allows students to earn both high school and college credit by taking college courses while enrolled in high school. The program provides an opportunity to experience college-level academics, explore potential areas of study, and begin progress toward future educational goals. Because participation impacts a student’s high school schedule and creates a permanent college transcript, careful planning is essential.

Information and Support
Moeller’s annual CCP information session is held virtually in January.
Here is a link to the Information Session for those unable to attend. School Counselors are available to help students and families:
   • understand program expectations and responsibilities
   • determine if CCP is an appropriate fit
   • navigate application steps and deadlines
   • plan course selection and scheduling

Admissions and Deadlines
Students must complete all required steps to participate in CCP, including:
   • submitting the Intent to Participate form by the state deadline
   • applying for admission to a participating college
   • meeting college admission and placement requirements
   • registering for courses by college deadlines

Requirements and timelines may vary by institution, so students should work closely with their counselor throughout the process. Nonpublic school students must also apply for state CCP funding each year. Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so meeting all deadlines is critical. Funding application deadlines are April 1 and November 1.
